Upton/Shrewsbury – Robert M .”Rob” Coran, of Upton and formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025.
He is survived by his loving parents, Mark and Judith (Fontes) Coran, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL; his cherished children, Lucy J. Coran, twins, Dylan J. Coran, and Cameron E. Coran, all of Shrewsbury; his devoted fiancée, Kerri Doyle, of Upton; his siblings, Ted Coran and his wife Robyn, of Avon, CT, Catherine Desmond, of Annapolis, MD, and Elizabeth Jannetty and her husband Dominic, of Doylestown, PA; Kerri’s children, Abigail and Brady Gibbons, of Upton; his children’s mother Jill (Farricy) Coran of Shrewsbury; and his beloved nieces and nephews: Zachary and Emma Coran, Christopher and Mark Desmond, Jake and Julia Jannetty.
Rob was born in Syracuse, NY, and was raised in West Hartford, CT. He graduated from William H. Hall High School, prior to attending and graduating from Syracuse University with his Bachelor’s degree. Rob was a member of the Delta Upsilon fraternity.
After college Rob relocated to New York City to pursue his first love – music. Rob was founding member and lead guitarist for the Mohegan Acoustic Company playing the local music clubs in the city. After 3 years struggling to make it as a musician, Rob turned to Information Technology. He had a long and successful career with CCBN, Thomson Reuters, NASDAQ, West, Entrado, Tracelink and lastly as VP of Application Development at Lineage.
On top of his busy corporate career Rob had many passions and hobbies. Music was his enduring passion – he enjoyed writing music, playing guitar, singing, and crowd favorite making up silly songs that entertained family and friends. Rob loved to spend time outdoors whether hiking in the woods with his four-legged companions – Norman, Walter and Otto – or at the beach- especially Groton Long Point, Humarock and Matunuck. He was an aspiring fisherman and boat captain terrorizing both fresh and salt water fish. On top of all that, Rob had a green thumb. He constructed and took great pride in his own raised beds and nurtured a vegetable cornucopia. Not to mention off road motorcycling and raising chickens.
Rob “really was a funny guy”. He enjoyed movies and memorized the dialogue of countless films always using the right quote to accent a conversation or make his point.
Rob established a large community of very close friends over his many years. He never lost touch with his closest friends from High School, maintained connection with his fraternity brothers, added close and enduring friendships in his community in Shrewsbury and Upton, as well his colleagues throughout his career.
None of his career and other activities came before the love, pride and the time he spent with Kerri, Lucy, Cameron, Dylan and his entire family. Rob was the life of the party. His presence, cooking and comedy at the family holiday gatherings was always excitedly anticipated, he never disappointed and he will always be missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Sierra Club and Active Minds.
Arrangements are incomplete at this time.
Britton Funeral Home of Shrewsbury is assisting the family.
