WOBURN – Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan and Massachusetts Department of Revenue Commissioner Geoffrey E. Snyder have announced that Ashraf Youssef, 62, of Hopkinton, pleaded guilty in Middlesex Superior Court to three counts of attempted tax evasion.

Between 2020 and 2022, Youssef was the owner of AAA Smoke & Vape Shop in Marlborough. During those years, he routinely purchased Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems (commonly referred to as vapes) from four different distributors located outside of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, according to Ryan’s office.

As part of those purchases, the invoices stated that Youssef was responsible for paying the excise taxes on the products. Over the three years, he made many purchases and did not pay over $467,000 owed in Electronic Nicotine Delivery Systems excise taxes.
