Hudson – On a seasonably brisk Nov. 2, nearly 130 supporters of the C.A. Farley Elementary School physical education department and Farley Home & School Association ran the ninth annual Farley Fox Trot on the newly-resurfaced track at Morgan Bowl in Hudson. Participants got a T-shirt depicting the school’s fox mascot drawn by third-grader Tatianna Chaplain, whose design won an art contest.
Before runners took their marks on the track, they did warmup exercises led by volunteer Liam Weagle, a freshman at Assabet Valley Regional Technical High School where he’s a cross-country and lacrosse athlete. Choral and music teacher Christina Straus directed the fourth-grade chorus singing the national anthem.
Girls and boys in preschool through fourth grade could choose to run 100, 200, 400 or 800 meters.
First to finish the 100-meter runs were preschooler Abagail Andrade and kindergartener Anderson Harding. First-grader Adriana Oliveira and second-grader Jacob Lambert were the first to complete the 200-meter runs. The 400-meter runs were finished first by third-grader Tatianna Chaplain and second-grader Lorenzo Rodrigues. Fourth-graders Makayla Laudate and Logan Azar finished first in the 800-meter runs.
The event concluded with adults including parents and teachers joining students for a one-mile run, which Logan Azar also finished first overall.
Everyone was awarded a medal by Principal Melissa Provost and Assistant Principal Rachel Scanlon. Serving as event chair was PE teacher Brian Quinn, assisted by parent volunteer Kim Davis. Hudson High School sports announcer Don Quinn commentated the action.
Proceeds from registrations and event sponsors help purchase equipment for physical education and recess.
