WESTBOROUGH – A truck fire drew Hopkinton and Westborough fire personnel to the I-495/I-90 interchange early Tuesday afternoon, slowing traffic in the area.
The scene was then cleared shortly before 3 p.m. according to a State Police spokesperson.
State police said the brakes of the truck caught fire. The truck’s driver subsequently told first responders that he had tried to use his fire extinguisher to fight the flames, though he was unsuccessful, according to state police.
Photos shared by the Westborough Fire Department showed crews initially approaching a truck with fire visible around its tires.
Smoke billowed from the blaze, blowing over traffic which had slowed in oncoming lanes.
Additional photos showed the aftermath of the fire, with wheels burned down to their rims and damage to other portions of the truck.
The Westborough Fire Department warned motorists to expect delays around 12:30 p.m.
