Wellspring United Methodist Church to hold “Worship In Pink” hope and healing service

Shrewsbury - Wellspring United Methodist Church will be holding a "Worship In Pink" hope and healing service Saturday, Oct. 12 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 440 Main St. A free soup and bread meal will be served at 6 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall with the service then starting at 7 p.m. in Lawrence Hall. A few years ago, the Susan G. Komen organization launched a "Worship in Pink" program to invite everyone to join in the fight to end breast cancer. "Worship in Pink" is a grassroots effort with local synagogues, churches, and mosques nationwide to educate their respective members on breast health and breast cancer.

Employment Options sets up account for van donations

Marlborough - Now that the shock of a devastating fire that destroyed three of its transport vans has abated a bit, the nonprofit organization Employment Options, Inc. is focusing on moving forward. Officials believe a man deliberately set fire to his own car in the Employment Option's parking lot at 82 Brigham St. Saturday, June 16. That fire spread to three of the agency's vans; the man also perished in the fire.

Remembering a benefactor

Northborough - The photo of this portrait was taken on the second floor of the Northborough Free Library at 34 Main St. An engraved plate at the base of the frame reads "Cyrus Gale 1824-1907 Born in Northborough." A photo remarkably similar to the above likeness appears in "Images of America Northborough," by the Northborough Historical Society. However, the caption under the book's photo refers to subject as Cyrus Gale, Jr. It called one of the town's chief benefactors, who endowed the Northborough Free Library building and Assabet Park and states that he died in 1907. The book also pictures his father, who is referred to as Capt. Cyrus Gale.
