Marlborough official discusses economic growth strategies with Westborough EDC

Westborough – The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has one goal – to stabilize the residential tax base by increasing Marlborough's commercial tax revenue. At the June 5 Westborough Economic Development Committee, Arthur Bergeron, the chair of the MEDC's executive committee, detailed how that organization was working to do so.

Westborough Civic Club’s 40th tree sale to benefit community

Westborough – The Westborough Civic Club is celebrating its 40th anniversary while preparing to fundraise with a Christmas tree sale for as many years. Members and guests met for dinner at the Grille in the Westborough Country Club several weeks before the Saturday, Nov. 28, delivery of 1,500 Canadian balsams, garland and over 500 wreaths to the former Tufts Machine lot at 53 East Main St. Among the dinner guests was Selectmen Chair George Barrette.

Officials discuss marketing Westborough

Westborough – A competitive business atmosphere that has seen neighboring Marlborough entice businesses such as TJX Companies, Inc. and the Boston Scientific Corporation to that city, has made Westborough officials determined to do the same. But just how that will be done, especially without the substantial marketing budget Marlborough has, will be a challenge, they admit. At the Nov. 11 Westborough Economic Committee meeting (EDC), the members discussed a few possible options. It was noted that the Marlborough Economic Development Corporation is funded by a two percent surtax on the city's hotel rooms, which generates nearly $500,000 in revenue.
