Student Leadership Council members gain tools for being good citizens

Marlborough - Being a leader means being grateful, being kind to others, and being a role model. That’s according to Kayla Parsons, a fourth-grader at the Charles Jaworek Elementary School in Marlborough. She’s one of 18 students in her grade enrolled in the May session of the Student Leadership Council at the school.

Ceremony dedicates Hudson's new Quinn Middle School

Hudson – Town and state officials participated in a dedication ceremony Oct. 30 for the new $43.3 million Quinn Middle School, which replaced the 45-year-old JFK Middle School. Speakers included Massachusetts School Building Authority Executive Director Jack McCarthy; state Sen. Jamie Eldridge, D-Acton; state Rep. Kate Hogan, D-Stow; Superintendent Dr. Kevin Lyons; Quinn Middle School Principal Brian Daniels; Tammy Ducey, a JFK Middle School Building Committee member; and Leigh Sherwood of OMR Architects. Representing the school's students were seventh-graders Jordyn Yates and Bryce Miranda.

Frightfully fun haunted house benefits Center Stage

Westborough – Students of the Center Stage Theater Company transformed the Westborough High School (WHS) auditorium into an abandoned haunted house Oct. 16. Throughout the evening, a group of creepy characters eerily emerged from dark crevices when guests arrived and donated a $5 admission. Proceeds from the first-time fundraiser will go toward future production costs. The theater company produces three mainstage shows each school year, as well as a series of smaller events.

STEM program in full swing in Marlborough

Marlborough - Excitement was in the air this fall as the new Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program began for Marlborough High School (MHS) ninth-graders and sixth-graders at the Whitcomb Middle School. During the orientation given by program teachers, students were encouraged to reach higher, become risk takers, and take ownership of their education and careers.

Officials say no viable threats found at school after anonymous call

Shrewsbury – Dr. Joseph M. Sawyer, the Shrewsbury Superintendent of Schools, released this statement this afternoon: This morning, the Paton School received an anonymous phone call that made a non-specific threat. Per school district protocol, the Shrewsbury Police were called and the school went into lockdown. After an assessment of the situation by the police, students returned to normal classroom activities within 30 minutes. Out of an abundance of caution, the Shrewsbury Police maintained a presence at the school throughout the day, and one of the Shrewsbury Police Department School Resource Officers will be present at the school for the remainder of the week.
