Marlborough – The Marlborough Central Fire Station hosted a fun and educational open house Oct. 14 in observance of National Fire Prevention Week (Oct. 8 to 14). This year’s theme was “Every Second Counts: Plan Two Ways Out!” The fire-safety literature distributed emphasized that everyone needs to have an escape plan.

Marlborough – At the Raymond C. Richer Elementary School Science Fair Nov. 2, groups of students swarmed around various tables, such as “Make Red Slime,” “Smell a Station,” and “Extract Strawberry DNA” to figure out the “how-tos” presented at the individual stations. Not only did elementary students exhibit active inquiry skills and problem-solving, so did their younger and older siblings as well as parents and grandparents who joined them at this annual event.

After electing officers and receiving committee reports, attendees were transported by historical interpreter and History at Play Theater Company’s founder, Judith Kalaora, who took them on a journey through the life of Christa McAuliffe. Kalaora’s 90-minute poignant portrayal was very well received.
