At the heart of Grafton’s Polish community, a hand-built home

Grafton - There’s something about the tables - long, banquet-style, with chicken soup and turkey and (if the hosts were good) a bottle of whiskey in the middle. The tables seem to have worked their way into people’s collective memory of the Polish National Home (PNH) in South Grafton, an unforgettable presence in the Polish wedding celebrations held in the second story hall. Perhaps it’s because of the disappearing act they had to perform by the end of dinner. Broken down, swept aside, pressed up against the wall — they could be anywhere but the center of the floor. With wax scattered and the band prepared, it was time to dance. The polka and the “Oberek” of course.

The church, located at 53 N. Main St. in North Grafton has a long history of service, which is what attracted Reverend Goodwin to the parish in 2007.

Grafton pastor co-authors book on church growth

Grafton - Reverend Jane Willan grew up in Burlington, Iowa, where she attended a Disciples of Christ Church. It was at a church camp when, at the age of 12, Willan knew without a doubt that she was called to go into the ministry when she “grew up.” In the years that followed, she never wavered in her desire, ultimately leading her to the Congregational Church in Grafton.

Collaboration of Tufts, Worcester students benefits city’s pets

And in the process, animal owners who would otherwise not have been able to afford costly veterinary care have such for their pets and other animals.

First, the cars, which were transporting 120-foot long propane tanks, were unable to navigate a tight, congested corner in Milford.

Grafton nonprofit gives homeless dogs a second chance

Grafton – The famous cartoonist Charles Schulz once wrote “Happiness is a warm puppy.” Bay State Dogs, a Grafton-based nonprofit, would almost certainly add that it’s also a warm dog – of any age – in need of a second chance. With its mission to rescue and find good homes for Massachusetts canines, it’s been busy spreading that happiness to people and their furry new companions. Martha Palermo, who founded Bay State Dogs in 2011, is a dog trainer who has been passionate about helping dogs for years.
