Grafton selectmen reviews Hazard Mitigation Plan

Grafton - The Grafton Board of Selectmen heard a presentation about the town’s Hazard Mitigation Plan at their meeting July 12. Principal Planner Paul Dell’Aquila noted that the Hazard Mitigation Plan is not an emergency response plan, but regards natural disaster mitigation to reduce the impact on people and property ahead of time. The plan uses six different tools: property protection, public education/awareness, natural resource protection, inland water/runoff, structural projects, and emergency response protection.

Overflow crowd results in discussion regarding proposed marijuana facility being rescheduled

Grafton – A discussion on a proposed marijuana facility that was to be held during the Jan. 5 Board of Selectmen’s meeting was rescheduled to a future date after an overflow crowd of residents showed up.

Grafton Selectmen address multiple issues

Grafton - With few exceptions, the Grafton Board of Selectmen dealt expeditiously with a number of items at the Nov. 3 meeting. The board voted to sign a contract with Graves Engineering for services relating to the Stowe Road Drainage Improvement Project. At the fall Special Town Meeting, the town voted to approve $50,000 to study the feasibility of repairing a chronic water drainage problem at 38-40 Stowe Road which has resulted in an ever-growing chasm between the properties there.

Temporary one-way street designated in Grafton

Grafton - At the Aug. 4 meeting, the Grafton Board of Selectmen dealt with the traffic confusion and congestion along Boulevard Avenue because of the ongoing renovation of One Grafton Common. The roadway is hindered by a construction fence and vehicles on one side of the road and the door at Jordan’s Garage is partially blocked, so the selectmen have decided to make the road temporarily one-way. The avenue will be open from east to west or from North Street to Route 140 for an undetermined period.

Grafton American Legion and VFW commemorate Veterans Day

Grafton - American Legion Post 92, Delisle Goulet, in Grafton -- joined by members of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1497 of South Grafton -- recognized Veterans’ Day 2015 with a ceremony at the Legion post Nov. 11. In a misting, cold rain, before a crowd of 100 veterans, families, and friends, post members and guests saluted the US Flag, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and heard a prayer, followed by “It is the Soldier,” read by the post chaplain. The ceremony then completed, those assembled adjourned for lunch.
