Grafton - At 64.9 crimes per 100,000 residents, Grafton finds itself second only to Shrewsbury at 46.9 as one of the safest places to live in the area, according to the website City-Date.com. Grafton was compared to Shrewsbury, Millbury, Upton, Sutton, Northbridge, Auburn, Douglas and Worcester, which ranks lowest on the list at 417.3 crimes per 100,000 people. The crimes considered include murder, rape, robbery, assault, burglary, theft, auto theft and arson.

Grafton voters reject funding for proposed new DPW building

Grafton – Voters at the May 9 Annual Town Meeting soundly rejected a proposal to fund a new Department of Public Works (DPW) building. The plan, which had first been proposed in 2001, has been a source of controversy over the years. The article at the ATM asked for a favorable vote to fund $13.9 million through a Proposition 2-1/2 debt for a new 35, 430 square facility to be built at 48 Old Westboro Road.
