Grafton – Kristin Turgeon, a 2014 Grafton High School (GHS) alum, is pursuing her dream as a freshman at Berklee College of Music. While studying at the world’s largest independent college of contemporary music, she’s drawing upon inspiration from her first mentor in middle school, chorus director Karen Barkin.

Grafton – What does “The Fault in Our Stars” author John Green and the Grafton Public Library have in common? They both celebrate Nerdfighters. No, they aren’t bullies who fight “nerds.” Instead, they are people who unite to embrace their intelligence, uniqueness and eccentricities – while having a good time and making new friends. Earlier this year, the Grafton Public Library launched its Nerdfighters program for teens.

Grafton – The revolution started with a river. The Blackstone River had no idea, of course, that it was to become a tireless laborer, the driving force that would keep the wheels of industry turning. But with a staggering drop of 438 feet over a 46-mile course, its powerful flow proved irresistible. Wherever the river went, so men and mills would follow.

Grafton - With just a few months on the job as the newly elected state representative for the Ninth Worcester District, Representative David Muradian, R-Grafton, is already hard at work.

Grafton - For many, finding a way to seek refuge from the crazy and hectic world is a struggle. For Susan West, 49, it is found in the sanctity of drumming and chanting

Grafton – Grafton’s Economic Development Commission, a quasi-government entity, was established in 1991 to foster economic growth in the town of Grafton. Chaired by Elias Hanna, the current 10-member board’s mission is “to promote sustainable economic development and to assist the Board of Selectmen and the Planning Board in the implementation of the Town’s economic goals and objectives.”

Grafton – About 15 years ago, Frank Bartucca of Grafton rekindled his enthusiasm for theater. He studied master acting classes at several venues in Boston and Worcester, while performing in plays with community theater groups. Then in 2010, he founded the 4th Wall Stage Company.

Grafton - Steve Beckwith was already living the dream before he and his wife Jan relocated to Grafton from Bolton this past fall. Beckwith, who left behind a high-stress, senior management position to launch his second career as a luthier - a craftsperson who builds and repairs guitars and other stringed instruments - is hoping that the move will make that dream just a little more visible.

Grafton – One night in 1958, a group of men met in the basement of the Grafton United Methodist Church to form what they called the Grafton Forest Association, which would later come to be known as the Grafton Land Trust.

Grafton – As a founding member of Talk About Curing Autism (TACA), Grafton resident Mary Romaniec goes above and beyond to fulfill the group’s goal of providing education, support and information to caregivers of those with autism. TACA believes in early diagnosis, intensive therapies and medical intervention.

Grafton – When one thinks of William Shakespeare, perhaps his classic works, such as “King Lear” or “Macbeth,” come to mind. Or perhaps one of the many great actors, such as Richard Burton or Sir Laurence Olivier, who played such memorable roles. Or perhaps one remembers studying a play in high school, such as “Romeo and Juliet.” Chances are though one does not think of Grafton when one thinks of Shakespeare. Unless one happens to be a member of the Shakespeare Club of Grafton (SCoG), a group of approximately 20 men and women, who love anything and everything about the Bard.

Grafton - A couple of months ago, Julien Cherry, a senior at Grafton High School (GHS), approached his friend Yusuf Sezer, a junior at GHS, about an idea for a community service project for the National Honor Society (NHS): a film festival.

Grafton - Living in 2015, it can be hard to imagine even the most commonplace aspects of life in the centuries that preceded ours.

Grafton - Zachary Kerzee, 25, is the pastor of Simple Church, an offspring of the former United Methodist Church in Grafton which closed its doors two years ago, allocating funds from the building sale to the “planting” of a new church. Simple Church, a farm-to-table dinner church located at the church parsonage next to the Elvidge farm property at 82 Potter Hill Road, is committed to simplicity, community and service. And, while affiliated with the Methodist Church, Simple Church is open to all, including those who have felt marginalized by traditional religions, with the emphasis on full welcome into the spirit community of Simple Church.

Grafton – The Grafton Police Association/Alliance will be hosting a basketball game Thursday, May 7, as a team of Grafton police officers and other local athletes face off against the New England Patriots All- Stars. The game will be held at Grafton High School, 24 Providence Road, starting at 7 p.m.
