Luthier Lives the Dream in Grafton

Grafton - Steve Beckwith was already living the dream before he and his wife Jan relocated to Grafton from Bolton this past fall. Beckwith, who left behind a high-stress, senior management position to launch his second career as a luthier - a craftsperson who builds and repairs guitars and other stringed instruments - is hoping that the move will make that dream just a little more visible.

The Grafton Historical Society Museum: Presenting the Past

Grafton - There’s an odd, large object occupying one corner of the Grafton Historical Society Museum’s annex. It’s approximately half wood and half metal, and on first inspection it seems like it could be just as easily at home on a farm as the set of a horror movie. So when the Museum Director Linda Casey mentioned the movie “Frozen,” it came as a bit of a surprise.

Grafton pastor co-authors book on church growth

Grafton - Reverend Jane Willan grew up in Burlington, Iowa, where she attended a Disciples of Christ Church. It was at a church camp when, at the age of 12, Willan knew without a doubt that she was called to go into the ministry when she “grew up.” In the years that followed, she never wavered in her desire, ultimately leading her to the Congregational Church in Grafton.

World War II sailor lost at sea to be honored

Grafton - EM1 (Engineman First Class) William F. Dohlus will be honored on Tuesday, May 17, in a Grafton ceremony 73 years after he went missing in a WWII battle. Dohlus, a Grafton native, was a crewman aboard the submarine USS Cisco (SS-290), which was sunk by the Imperial Japanese Navy on Sept. 28, 1943. Cisco was a Balao-class submarine launched in December 1942.

Grafton selectmen ponder creating LPG Facility Advisory Committee

Grafton - The battle between the Town of Grafton and the Grafton and Upton Railroad (G&U RR) received continued attention at the May 19 Board of Selectmen’s meeting. At issue is the recent decision by the federal Surface Transportation Board to allow, after a two-year court battle, the G&U RR to install four, 120-foot liquid propane gas (LPG) storage tanks at the railroad’s switching yard on Westborough Road in North Grafton, adjacent to the site previously selected for the town’s Super Park and in a residential neighborhood.
