He was 12 years old, and had come to the club at the urging of a friend to play basketball, one of his favorite ways to have fun. His first impression was a favorable one.

Hudson – A preview of pleasant summer weather June 7 helped the Assabet Valley Chamber of Commerce draw lots of visitors to its 28th annual Hudson Community Fest on South Street and nearby downtown locations. Festivities included live entertainment at the Cellucci Park gazebo and the Avidia Stage, vendors, refreshments and nonprofit organization info booths. Kids were happy that it was opening day of the Splash Pad.

Their project examined the science behind scoring the perfect basketball shot. It was one of 30 notable science projects from students nationwide.

Hudson – The Hudson High School (HHS) Auditorium is frequently used by a number of organizations including the River's Edge Arts Alliance (REAA) and the HHS Drama Society. These organizations appreciate the importance of creating illusions to achieve a willing suspension of disbelief from their audience. They also understand that money is needed to enhance a performance venue. Cue the spotlight on a first-time fundraiser: "Applause for Our Cause: The Big 50/50 Raffle." Five hundred raffle tickets are available for $20 each. One winner will receive $5,000. The rest will go toward technical improvements and repairs in the HHS Auditorium.

Hudson honors fallen veterans

Hudson – Memorial Day was observed May 26 in downtown Hudson with a parade led by the Hudson Police Color Guard. In addition to military vehicles, the parade featured representatives from the town's veterans" organizations and Scout troops. Music was provided by the marching bands of Hudson High and Quinn Middle schools. A ceremony followed at Liberty Park with speakers including state Rep. Kate Hogan, D-Stow, and Selectman Fred Lucy.

Hudson - If you'se visited the Assabet River Rail Trail (ARRT) in downtown Hudson recently, you probably couldn's help but notice the four "Rail Trail Animals" that stand a short distance from the parking lot at 417 Main St. The four pine carvings are of a hawk, a frog, a fish and a rabbit, and they are an amusing welcome to the many bikers, walkers and skateboarders that use the trail.
