Foundation’s founder to be honored at 25th-year gala

Marlborough – The Citizens Scholarship Foundation (CSF) of Marlborough, a local chapter of Scholarship America, will honor its founder Mary Lou Vanzini at its 25th Anniversary Gala to be held Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Marlborough Senior Center, 40 New St. Doors will open with food stations at 6:30 p.m. Vanzini is looking forward to reuniting with people she’s met throughout her several decades as a community leader.

Marlborough School Committee says superintendent is stalling accreditation

Marlborough – School Committee members are concerned that an accreditation process for Marlborough High School (MHS) is being stalled by Dr. Anthony Pope, the superintendent of the Marlborough Public Schools, they said at a meeting May 31. According to Mayor Arthur Vigeant, who also serves as School Committee chair and member Katherine Hennessey, after a review was conducted at MHS by the New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC) in 2010, the school was issued a "warning" status. At that time, NEASC submitted a list of concerns to the school district for its review. The district was then to submit a report with recommendations on how to remedy those concerns back to NEASC by November of last year.

Condominiums, restaurant proposed for downtown

Marlborough-The opening stages of allowing residential and commercial business on the same acreage in the Marlborough Village District took place at the Sept. 12 City Council meeting. The site plan application for a six-story building with 32 residential condominium units and a ground floor restaurant was presented by Attorney Arthur Bergeron on behalf of Marlborough on Main Development, LLC of Woburn Mass.

Renovation of Stevens Playground moves forward

Marlborough - Due to the receipt of a $200,000 state grant and rental income from cell towers on Sligo Hill, the city will move forward with plans to renovate Stevens Playground which abuts Martin and Broad streets. In a communication to the City Council at the May 19meeting, Mayor Arthur Vigeant asked councilors to accept the grant and allow him to proceed with the renovation project. They referred the request to the Finance Committee for review.
