Region – When a baby is born prematurely, parents often experience a host of emotions including anxiety, fear and depression. While they of course want to be by their little one's side, that is not always possible, especially when the hospitalization is, as is often in cases of preemies, quite lengthy. But now parents whose babies are patients in the UMass Memorial Medical Center's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) in Worcester have another way to stay in touch when they can's be there in person ?a special web camera that allows them to see their child via real-time video.

Calendar marks Marlborough sports history

Marlborough – Sports fans joined history buffs Jan. 30 at the Marlborough Senior Center to hear Bob Kane present highlights of the city's sports history. Many of those memories are detailed with photos in the 2013 Marlborough Historical Society's sports-themed calendar, dedicated to community leader Ralph Grasso. The January page profiles Richard Busa, who began running at age 53 and has raced over 70 marathons nationally. Now 83, he still resides in Marlborough, Kane noted.

Abby's House helps women, children for over three decades

Shrewsbury - Annette Rafferty, born in 1930, began her work with Abby's House in 1973, before it even existed. After teaching for 21 years at various Catholic schools, she was asked by the Worcester Urban Ministry Commission to serve on a committee assessing whether there was need for a new homeless shelter in Worcester. Heading the task force, Rafferty took to the streets. It didn't take long to conclude that homelessness was a growing problem. She talked to individuals, neighborhood centers, and even prostitutes.
