Northborough American Legion hopes restored tank builds community

Northborough - Gisele Giordano, the manager, function coordinator and treasurer for the Vincent F. Picard American Legion Post 234 in Northborough, has always kept an eye on the hall’s Cold War-era tank from her second-floor office window. Recently, however, thanks to an extensive restoration, she has also watched it gather a steady stream of visitors and invigorate the legion’s community. The tank came to Northborough in 1995, the same year the U.S. military officially demilitarized it. In the decades that followed, the town’s harsh weather stripped parts of its paint and caused streaks of rust to drip down its sides.

Central Mass Club Lacrosse, Holy Cross give back

Northborough/Southborough - When Southborough resident Joe Kacevitch is not working as the New England territory manager for Shaw Sports Turf, he can likely be found on a local lacrosse field. Kacevitch founded the Northborough-Southborough Girls’ Youth Lacrosse Program 13 years ago and has since partnered with Holy Cross Head Coach Stephanie Ridolfi to create Central Mass Club Lacrosse. Together, Kacevitch and Ridolfi have made an impact on as well as off the field, recently working with athletes and their families to help stock the Catholic Charities Food Bank.

In spite of challenges, Northborough resident achieves Boy Scouts highest honor

Northborough – Only 7 percent of Boy Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle Scout, the organization's highest honor, and even fewer who have intellectual disabilities do so. Daniel Fitzgerald, 20, who is autistic, is among this elite group. A member of Northborough's Troop 101, he officially became an Eagle Scout April 22.

St. Rose of Lima collects more than 1,000 gifts for families in need
