Northborough likely to sell downtown tax title property

Northborough--The most logical disposition of a parcel of property the town took by tax title in 2012 is to declare the lot and building surplus and sell it, Town Administrator John Coderre told the Board of Selectmen at its meeting June 9. The property at 39 West Main St. measures just under two-tenths of acre in size and has a total value of $388,600, including $202,000 for the 7,800 square foot building and $186,600 for the land, according to Northborough Assessors records. The town took the property in January of 2012 from Margaritaville LLC, the records indicate.

Wheelabrator contract extension will mean savings for town

Northborough--The town will reap savings in its trash disposal costs over the next three years after agreeing to ratify an extension to its contract to send trash to the Wheelabrator plant in Millbury. The 10-year extension is "a pretty good deal" for the town, Town Engineer Fred Litchfield told the Board of Selectmen during its meeting Dec. 15. Litchfield noted that Northborough and the 35 other communities in the central Massachusetts purchasing cooperative received favorable rates in the initial contract to send trash to the Millbury facility starting in 1986. That original 20-year deal expired in 2006 and was followed by a 10-year extension that is now itself winding down.
