Northborough’s annual Applefest promises fun-filled weekend

Northborough – This year’s annual Applefest in Northborough promises to be an exciting event for the whole family. It showcases the true spirit of community as many organizations come together Sept. 14-17. The fun kicks off Thursday evening with a pizza dinner and kids’ event featuring the Stupendous Mr. Magichead at the Robert E. Melican Middle School, 145 Lincoln St., beginning at 5 p.m. sponsored by Northborough Girl Scouts and Northborough Elementary Schools PTO.

Northborough - Start the running season with the Northborough 10K/5K road/trail race Sunday, May 1, starting at 9 a.m. beginning at the Northborough Senior Center, 119 Bearfoot Road. The race, sponsored by the Northborough Rotary Club and the Friends of the Northborough Senior Center, is open to runners and walkers of all abilities.

NEF announces annual Trivia Night

Northborough - Northborough Education Foundation (NEF) will hold its annual Team Trivia Night Friday, April 1, at the DoubleTree by Hilton, 5400 Computer Drive, Westborough. Doors open at 7 p.m. and first question is at 7:30 p.m. Teams of two to four people will test their knowledge of sports, entertainment, history and science. There will be a cash bar and light snacks. Team costumes and accessories are optional and encouraged. Prizes will be awarded for the winning team and best costumes.

Baking up a storm in Northborough

Northborough – At the Senior Center this morning, five judges had a very difficult task – deciding which of a dozen baked entrees deserved to win first prize in the Applefest Apple Dessert Bake-Off. Each judge took several bites of the desserts in the main category, which included a variety of cakes, cookies, bars, and crisps, to decide which one was their favorite. Two entries, baked apples in phyllo dough and a marsala chia apple crisp, both by Rose Lee, were in a separate "diabetic friendly" category. Entries were judged on presentation, creativity, overall appearance, taste and overall impression.
