Someone had told the woman about the diagnosis and she came to tell the Winer family that her daughter also has type 1.

Garden Club sponsors two SOS events

Shrewsbury - The 7th annual "Scarecrows on the Common" contest and display, sponsored by the Shrewsbury Garden Club, will take place Friday, Sept. 30, through Friday, Oct. 21. Shrewsbury residents, businesses and clubs are invited to create a scarecrow to be displayed on the Town Common. Awards and certificates will be given out in several categories. Again this year, there will be no entry fee; however, participants are asked to fill out and send in an entry form. The deadline for entry is Friday, Sept. 23.

State Rep. Peterson will retire after current term ends

Region – After 20 years as a state representative, George N. Peterson, Jr., R-Grafton, has decided to step down when his term ends next January. Peterson, 63, the current assistant minority leader, represents the 9th Worcester district in central Massachusetts, which includes Grafton, Northbridge and Upton and prior to the legislative redistricting in 2012, also represented parts of Westborough. Leaving the House of Representatives will be bittersweet, he conceded, but added that it was "time."

Southborough - The Southborough Open Land Foundation (SOLF) was founded in 1988 by former resident Lawrence Susskind, an urban planner, and Pete Kallander, a lifelong resident of the town. It is an independent, private, nonprofit organization of volunteers, separate from town government, who aim to preserve, protect and enhance the natural resources in the town of Southborough. Over the past 25 years, it has succeeded in maintaining and improving the quality of life for current and future residents. as well as for the visitors who travel to and through the town.
