Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury High School (SHS) Speech and Debate Team hosted the second annual Evening Speech Showcase May 4 to highlight the team's talents through student performances. Selectmen approve water restriction resolution

Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen approved a water restriction resolution during its April 23 meeting. Noting that "the selectmen have determined that a shortage of water exists" for which conservation measures are required, and that under Article 18 of the town bylaws they have the power to take immediate corrective action, they board resolved that an outdoor water restriction be set in place.

Shrewsbury – The Stewardship Ministry at St. Mary's Parish held the first Day of Service April 20 to allow parishioners to "live out their faith as stewards of God's many blessings," according to the day's organizers. Annual town election results for Hudson and Shrewsbury

Region – Fred P. Lucy II and James David Quinn were the two candidates in a field of five to win the two seats on the Board of Selectmen in the Hudson Annual Town Election April 30. Lucy, who entered the race as an incumbent, received 1,397 votes. This will be Quinn's first stint on the board. He received 1,261 votes. Charles McGourty, who was also an incumbent, came in third with 1,023 votes. Phillip "Paddy P. Dolan had 1,0121 votes and Susan Dunnell had 768.

Shrewsbury – Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) held its eight annual Arbor Day celebration April 27. First, 600 free trees were given to SELCO customers at the Town Common. Override request now less likely to come before voters

Shrewsbury – After a lengthy, spirited discussion during their April 23 meeting, the members of the Board of Selectmen backed away from approving a request to ask the voters for a Proposition 2-1/2 override this spring. During the meeting, the board reviewed the latest figures for the fiscal year (FY) 2014 budget and noted that overall, the news was good. Projected revenue had increased from Town Manager Daniel Morgado's first estimate of $109.36 million to $111.31 million. The budget for the town's schools came in at $51.38 million, still $1.1 million more than Morgado's recommendation.
