Shrewsbury selectmen thank voters for Prop 2 ? override support

At the Shrewsbury Board of Selectmen's June 10 meeting, Selectman Henry J. Fitzgerald thanked the town's voters for participating in the June 3 special election to accept a Proposition 2 ? override. This override had been in the works since the beginning of 2014 when the selectmen publicly voiced their support for the move.

SELCO introduces proposed changes, challenges

Shrewsbury - Representatives from Shrewsbury Electric and Cable Operations (SELCO) met with the Board of Selectmen at the board's Dec. 18 meeting to present a summary of current and proposed operations necessary for the utility's re-licensing in 2013. SELCO General Manager Michael Hale presented an overview of company operations. He indicated that SELCO is in good shape to keep serving the town, with the financing of current operations under control. Future operations will depend upon increased revenue.

Selectmen review property revaluation plan

Shrewsbury - Christopher Reidy, chair of the Shrewsbury Board of Assessors, appeared at the Nov. 12 Selectmen's meeting to update them on the triennial review of the town's assessing activities. The town assessor's office is charged with establishing market-based assessments for more than 12,000 real estate parcels and over 400 personal property accounts. The Assessor's Office employs one fulltime principal assessor, two part-time Board members, and two clerical positions. Every three years, the state's Department of Revenue reviews the activities of town assessors" offices and seeks to ensure that the town offices operate in compliance with state standards.

Junior Girl Scouts raise money for Haitian orphans

Shrewsbury – Members of Girl Scout Troop 11023 recently donated $200 and 132 boxes of Girl Scout cookies to an orphanage in Haiti. The girls had decided to use part of the money they raised in their recent cookie sale to help others. On hand to receive the check and cases of cookies was Cherylann Gengel of Holden, a founder of the Be Like Brit Foundation.
