Shrewsbury selectmen honor longtime volunteer

Shrewsbury – The Board of Selectmen honored Dorbert Thomas, a longtime member of the Conservation Commission, at its July 10 meeting. The board presented Thomas with a plaque and thanked her for her twenty-three years of work for the town's conservation efforts. The board also approved license requests made during three public hearings held during the meeting.

ZBA closes hearing on Shrewsbury flea market

Shrewsbury – After a three-hour, at times heated meeting, the Shrewsbury Zoning Board of Appeals (ZBA) July 9 upheld its earlier decision to approve a parking lot plan for a proposed flea market at Commerce Park, 420 Boston Turnpike (Route 9). On April 6 the Planning Board had approved a site plan for Worcester resident Danny Ha, who hopes to open a flea market at the site. Ha's proposal is to renovate 103,000 square feet and install 500 booths, which would be manned by 80 to 100 vendors on weekends and holiday weekends.

Shrewsbury - Every Monday afternoon Mike Kamrad pins a large "Ask Me" button to his shirt and heads over to UMass Memorial Hospital University Campus. Stationed at the juncture of the Ambulatory Care Center and the big parking garage, Kamrad helps patients and visitors ward off confusion. He makes sure those who need a wheelchair have one available. He eliminates frustration by showing people which set of elevators will take them to the right floor.
