Algonquin, Wachusett advance to Borough’s Cup finals

Westborough - The annual Borough’s Cup boys ice hockey tournament kicked off Dec. 16 with two semifinal games played at Northstar Ice Sports. The Westborough High School Rangers fell to the Wachusett Regional High School Mountaineers by a score of 5-2 in the first game of the evening. Wachusett jumped out 3-0 lead before Westborough’s Jacob Uhlman scored in the third period.

Marlborough, Shrewsbury head to Cheerleading Nationals

Marlborough/Shrewsbury - It was a day filled with loud music, louder cheers, acrobatic flips, scintillating stunts, dozens of teams, hundreds of cheerleaders, dancers and spectators, and more than eight hours of competition and routines at Marlborough, Shrewsbury head to Cheerleading Nationals (SHS) Nov. 20. In the end, the cheerleading teams from Marlborough High School (MHS) and SHS both received bids to Nationals. MHS and SHS finished 7th and 8th out of more than 15 teams in a competitive Division 1 field. MHS cheerleading coach Adrienne DeGeorge spoke about her team's performance despite the loss of a key performer earlier this fall.

Shrewsbury - The undefeated Shrewsbury High School Colonials field hockey team hosted their arch-rival Algonquin Regional High School Tomahawks Oct 11. The first half was scoreless as the two teams played evenly. In the second half, the Tomahawks appeared to score but the goal was called back. Shortly after that, the Colonials' Alanna Maniatis scored the eventual game winner and that was how it ended, 1-0.

Algonquin starts off season strong

Northborough/Southborough – The Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) varsity baseball team has always had a strong program, including winning the state title in 2006. After losing 11 seniors from last year’s team, which made it to the District quarterfinals, no one was quite sure what to expect with this year’s squad. But the team, with only five seniors, got the season off to a great start, winning six of its first seven games.
