Festival of Trees continues to grow in its eighth year

Marlborough – In 2008, the Marlborough Historical Society added 17 decorated trees to its Christmas at the Farm, an event held at its quaint Peter Rice Homestead. That simple idea has evolved to become this year's eighth annual Metrowest Festival of Trees, expected to feature over 125 trees and wreaths displayed alongside other attractions for the fourth year at the 47,500-square-foot Best Western Royal Plaza Trade Center.

Marlborough Hospital marks 15th Tree of Light

Marlborough – On Dec. 9, Marlborough Hospital marked its 15th annual Tree of Light ceremony in the Leahy Conference Room. Guests were greeted at the door by members of Boy Scout Troop 1775. Steve Roach, president and CEO, welcomed everyone and introduced the musical entertainment. Carols were sung by the 1Lt. Charles W. Whitcomb Middle School Seventh- and Eighth-Grade Chorus directed by Helen Morley.

Spreading holiday cheer in revitalized downtown Hudson

Hudson – An evening of unseasonably mild temperatures Dec. 5 drew residents and visitors to the 13th annual Hudson Downtown Holiday Stroll. Children shared their gift requests with Santa Claus by the fireplace at the Hudson Senior Center. Meanwhile, stroll guests of all ages got a unique perspective of the revitalized downtown via horse-drawn hayrides.

New this year, the Westborough Economic Development Committee partnered with Westborough Recreation to expand the annual Festival of Lights, which continues to be hosted by the Rotary Club of Westborough.

ARHS Theater to present ‘Good News’

Northborough – With its resounding win over rival Westborough High School on Thanksgiving Day, the Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) football team finished its best season since 1987. Now, approximately 10 members of the team will be facing a different kind of challenge in front of a different type of audience. The players are also members of the cast of the school’s production of “Good News,” which will be presented Thursday, Dec. 3 through Saturday, Dec. 5 at ARHS.

Over 1,100 ‘gobble wobble’ for new playground

Southborough – Over 1,100 runners and walkers worked up an appetite Thanksgiving morning, Nov. 27, by participating in the ninth annual Gobble Wobble 5K Road Race and Two-Mile Walk, beginning and ending at Trottier Middle School. A Kids Fun Run followed with children ages 3 to 11 competing in three age categories.

Historical restoration helps bring town’s history alive for present and future generations

Westborough – As the proprietor of the Art and Frame Emporium, Ed Turner naturally has a passion for art. But after a recent project he completed for the town of Westborough, he has found he is also inspired about using art to preserve local history. Over the course of the last year and a half, Turner and his team refinished 16 antique frames that were found abandoned in the attic of the old Westborough fire station. Those pieces were then used to display priceless documents that had been stored in the town vault. How this project all came to fruition is a happy story of chance, luck and synchronicity, as well as a dedicated group of residents and professionals who knew they had treasures on their hands.

Grafton Town House renovations will benefit community
