Northborough - Local residents gathered recently to compete in an 11-team softball tournament to raise money for charity and to honor Mark Fidrych, a professional baseball player who retired to Northborough before his death in 2009.
Marlborough - The 16th annual Marlborough Hospital Golf Classic was a financial success despite being a weather washout. The golf tournament netted over $110,000 to benefit the new Cancer Pavilion in the planning stages to be built on the north side of the existing hospital.
Southborough - Southborough residents are invited to the library Saturday, Sept. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for a celebratory Open House. Although the library was started in 1852, it was in 1911 that it moved to 25 Main St. in Southborough. The building was constructed in 1911 and enlarged in 1989.

Northborough - Runners of all ages are invited to participate Saturday, Sept. 17, in what has become a premier local event - the Applefest 5k Road Race. The race, which is sponsored for the 18th straight year by the Corridor Nine Area Chamber of Commerce, will start and end at the Zeh School, 33 Howard St., Northborough.
