Sherwood students share talents to help Sandy victims

Shrewsbury – For the last few weeks, the kids who participate in the Sherwood Middle School's After School program have been making a variety of holiday wreaths, home decorative items and jewelry to sell at a fair to be held at the school this week. But the kids are not just learning about the ABCs of business by doing so – they are also learning the power of helping others. That's because monies earned from the sale will not be going back to them or their school but will instead be donated to children who have been affected by Hurricane Sandy.

For the last 15 years, Susan Baburins has kept a jarful on her desk in the Athletic Department at Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) in Northborough. Kids flock by to pluck a tasty candy from the vessel, and most of them inevitably tell her about their day, or about their latest sporting match. Baburins was recently chosen as "Athletic Administrative Assistant of the Year" by the Massachusetts Secondary Schools Athletic Directors Association (MSSADA).
