Westborough youth enjoy “Hot Summer Nights”

Westborough – For the 16th year, youth entering grades six through 10 are keeping busy with activities and field trips from late June through mid-August thanks to Hot Summer Nights (HSN), a program of Westborough Youth and Family Services (WYFS). Many activities are offered free, some with a minimal fee, and scholarships are available.

Westborough man does some “reel” fishing

Westborough - On July 14 Brian Carlson set out into the waters off the coast of Cape Cod to do some shark fishing with friends. Fifteen miles south of Nomans Land Island, they hooked a large thresher shark. After a two-hour fight, the shark was pulled aboard the 30-foot Seaswirl and brought ashore. Named the "filet mignon of the sea" the shark was filleted and vacuum packed into meal-sized steaks. Needless to say, it was a "reel" good day on the water.

Westborough cyclist shares his passion with kids

Westborough - For Todd Savage, growing up in rural Kennebunk, Maine, allowed him the freedom to ride his bike anywhere and everywhere he wanted. Whether it was bombing down the old railroad bed or trekking up to the Dairy Queen, Savage says that life was all about "the bike." Over the years, Savage's love for cycling and the "freedom it allows" has never waned. "Be it chasing the back end of a truck, like in Breaking Away, or screaming down a hill, it was all about riding fast," Savage said. His record speed is 57 mph.

Northborough- On Wednesday, Aug. 5, outdoor enthusiasts will arrive at the Chesterfield Scout Reservation, near Scout Pond in Chesterfield, looking forward to two weeks of nonstop excitement. Headquartered in Northborough, the Massachusetts Junior Conservation Camp (MJCC) provides a unique outdoor experience offering a balanced program of conservation education and instruction in outdoor recreation activities, including fishing, boating, shooting, archery and outdoor survival techniques.

Landmark Shrewsbury clock is destroyed in accident

Shrewsbury - An iconic clock located on the island of Maple Avenue and West Main Street was knocked over early yesterday morning after being hit by a car. Shrewsbury Police Lieutenant Joseph McCarthy said there were no injuries reported in the single-car accident, but the car was totaled.

Two Lake Quinsigamond beaches reopen, but other problems persist

Shrewsbury- Two beaches on Lake Quinsigamond have been reopened after passing tests done by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and the city of Worcester's Division of Public Health. The beaches located at Regatta Point and Lake Park Beach were temporarily closed over the weekend after being deemed unsuitable for swimming due to elevated bacteria levels.
