Friendship and flapjacks

Shrewsbury - Motorists traveling along Main Street in Shrewsbury on recent Friday mornings might have been curious to see a group of young men congregating on the front lawn of a house not far from St. John's High School. If they looked closer at the group, who enthusiastically wave to commuters going by, they would have also seen several of them enjoying pancakes that were cooked on a nearby grill.

Westborough - Despite the threatening weather, hundreds of smiling, basket-toting children filled the lawn of Chapel of the Cross March 31 for the annual Easter Egg Hunt and Family Fun Day. The "egg-cited" children collected more than 12,000 candy-filled plastic eggs, ate from the endless supply of popcorn and cotton candy. At lunchtime, over 650 meals were consumed. Although the egg hunt took place outside, activities such as face painting, games, crafts and a moon walk kept the kids entertained indoors and out of the cold.

Musgrave ‘launched” a quest for fulfillment

Southborough - Story Musgrave has never followed a traditional path. He attended St. Mark's School where his innate desire to explore different places and his passion to seek adventure might have seemed at odds with the expectations of the prestigious school. Because he felt more inclined to experience life rather than read about it in books, and because at the all-boy-school he missed seeing women, children, and families, he left prior to graduation. According to Musgrave, "Not graduating was the right thing to do. I just walked away. I departed."

Golfers brave cold at Juniper Hill Golf Course

Northborough- On March 12, Juniper Hill Golf Course opened its doors, welcoming a significant number of jubilant golfers taking advantage of unseasonably high temperatures. "The course is in excellent condition," said Pro-Shop Assistant Jack Gallagher. "I have been here for 12 years, and it hasn's been this green. It has been terrific with the warm days, but not today - we'se only had two foursomes that are braving 36-degree temperatures [March 27] with pretty tough wind gusts. Hopefully it will warm up by the end of the week."

Visit Southborough's Breakneck Hill Conservation Land

Southborough - Although the cows have not yet graced the rolling hills and the grass is yet to turn a lush green, the Breakneck Hill Conservation Land on Breakneck Hill Road has much to offer. Located right off Route 9, this land boasts apple orchards, walking trails, plentiful wildlife, distant views of Mt. Wachusett on a clear day and, coming soon, the resident Belted Galloway cattle. During most of the 18th century, locals say the Breakneck Hill area was referred to as the Cow Commons.
