Doc Film & Discussion Series presents Black in Latin America film

July 11 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm

Ashland – The Ashland Documentary Film & Discussion Series will present the film Mexico and Peru: A Hidden Race, The Black Grandma in the Closet, from the PBS series Black in Latin America, on Thursday, July 11, 7 to 9 p.m., at the Ashland Library, Community Room, 66 Front St. The event is free and open to the public.

In this final film from a four-part series, “Black in Latin America,” Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr. explores the worlds of culture that African descendants have created in Vera Cruz on the Gulf of Mexico, the Costa Chica region on the Pacific, and in and around Lima, Peru, where Africans, Indians and Mestizos mixed and inter-married—an almost unknown history.

Started in 2015, the Documentary Film & Discussion series, sponsored by the Friends of the Ashland Library, meets every second Thursday of the month. For more information, call the library at 508-881-0134 or visit www.friendsoftheapl.com.
