February Foreign Film Festival continues
February 17 @ 2:00 pm
Shrewsbury – The Friends of the Shrewsbury Public Library announced its 10th annual February Foreign Film Festival Sundays at 2 p.m. at the library, 609 Main St. The films are open and free to all. Popcorn is provided. Guests are invited to bring their own beverage.
The films to be shown include:
Feb. 17: “The Way Home,” PG, from Korea, 2002, Korean with English subtitles, 87 minutes
The film is a heart-warming story about a grandmother and her city-born grandson, who comes to live with her in a rural village. The film reminds younger generations of the unconditional love and care that old people selflessly give. It won South Korea’s equivalent of the Oscars for best picture and screen play.
Feb. 24: “The Golden Door,” PG-13, from Italy, 2006, Italian with English subtitles, 120 minutes
A desperate and poor Southern Italian family seeks a way out, and, having heard reports of rivers running in milk and coins falling off of trees, leave their stony rural cottage and buy passage to America. The trip to the boat, aboard the boat, and at Ellis Island is one of wonder and hope and usually very little dialogue. The huge disadvantage of illiteracy is beautifully illustrated here, and the risks associated with leaving behind everything. Six time winner at the Venice Film Festival.
