Hudson – Riverside Gun Club, a sponsor for Hudson’s sesquicentennial celebration, is planning two family-oriented events in honor of the town’s 150th anniversary. The Gun Club was organized in 1928 and moved into the current building at 16 Wilkins St. in the 1940s.

The first event is a Trout Fishing Derby Saturday, April 23, which is open to the public. The club has stocked trout in the pond on the club property and prizes will be awarded for the biggest trout in adult and kid categories. There may be an opportunity to catch a golden trout for a special prize. Participants are required to have a Trout Pond Badge which is available on site.

The second event is an open house Saturday, Sept. 10, when all the facilities at the site will be open to the public. There will be a junior rifle competition at the 25-yard outdoor range; sign up is from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Awards for competition winners will be presented following the event. Skeet and trap shooting (open to the public) will be available with instruction and demonstrations starting a 10 a.m. Under supervision, the M-1 Garand, World War II vintage service rifle is available for shooting on the 100-yard outdoor range. Also the archery training staff will demonstrate shooting techniques and provide information on the adult and junior archery programs from 12 to 2 p.m. Certified instructors will be present for the open house events, and food vendors will be selling soft drinks, hamburgers and hot dogs at both events.
