Westborough Historical Society presents Medicine in Old New England
January 28 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm
Westborough – On Monday, Jan. 28, from 7-8:30 p.m., at Sibley House, the Westborough Historical Society will present Medicine in Old New England. What was medical care like in a world without knowledge of germs or even a good understanding of biology? When governments did not regulate medicine or license doctors? Was it all just superstition and snake oil? This talk will consider these questions and others as it examines health care before it became scientific… or a big business.
Tom Kelleher, Historian and Curator at Old Sturbridge Village, describes the practice of a New England Country doctor of the 19th century. Folk medicine, curious cures, and healthy actions will be described. Kelleher has worn many hats at Sturbridge Village and will share his knowledge of medicine of long ago.
Sibley House is located at 13 Parkman St. in Westborough.
