Day School Program

Private Elementary and Middle School for Kindergarten - Grade 9

Fay School's 66-acre campus is located in Southborough, MA, just 25 miles west of Boston. Our community includes day students in Kindergarten through grade nine and boarding students in grades seven through nine.

Our teachers work closely across grades and across disciplines to create a rich program that teaches foundational skills while also supporting critical thinking and creativity. Fay teachers believe in making learning "serious fun" - engaging, meaningful, authentic, and appropriately challenging.

Fay’s traditional curriculum is balanced with an innovative focus on creativity and design in every discipline. In every grade, students participate in classes where they are challenged to identify problems, think creatively, and iterate and test solutions. Many of these classes take place in Fay School’s new Center for Creativity and Design, a 7,000 square-foot space with dedicated spaces for designing, fabrication, and tinkering.

Some things our students love about our school:

Our students go to school with classmates from across the street - and across the world. Walk the halls of Fay School, and you’ll see global learning in action. Our 150 boarding students (seven-day and five-day boarding are options to students in grades 7-9) come from across the globe, and Upper School students have the unique opportunity to make meaningful friendships with peers from around the world. Through our cross-grade partnerships, our Primary and Lower School students also benefit from our international students’ experiences and perspectives.

This year, Fay’s boarders hail from these countries:
Afghanistan • Cayman Islands • Canada • China • Dominican Republic • France • Hong Kong • India • Indonesia • Japan • Mexico • Saudi Arabia • Singapore • South Korea • Spain • Switzerland • Taiwan • Thailand • Ukraine • United Arab Emirates • United States  • Vietnam
Fay is recognized around the world for its superior educational program, and our students are highly regarded by secondary schools. Our graduates are known to be confident, capable, enthusiastic students. In addition, they are highly involved in extracurricular activities as well as service-oriented pursuits on and off campus. As a result, Fay students have an excellent record of acceptance at secondary schools (high school level schools).

“Fay graduates stand out in our community. They are skilled mathematicians, writers, musicians, athletes, scientists, and artists—and they’re also intellectually curious and passionate about their interests."
–Admission officer, Phillips Exeter Academy

It's impossible to be invisible in our community of learners. Our students thrive in our connected community—a web of supportive adults who develop a deep understanding of each student’s needs. Every student has a point person and a home base for checking in—from the homeroom classes in the early grades, to the “homevisory” classes in fifth and sixth grade, to Upper School advisory, where students meet regularly in small groups with advisors.
A Fay education is about so much more than the academics. At Fay, character matters, and our program is designed to inspire and encourage students to become their best selves—as learners, as friends, and as members of the community. We are committed to service, and students at every grade level participate in hands-on service learning, from sorting toys and clothes to be distributed to underserved communities, to harvesting food at an organic farm for donation at a local food bank.

Each year, our day students come from over 45 surrounding towns in MA.
