Hudson – It is with great sadness that the family of Martin Edward Barry announces the passing of their beloved Marty. Marty passed June 22, 2018 at age 54 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Marty, a native of Marlborough, was a lover of life and loyal husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend with unlimited energy, a sense of adventure, and exceptional work ethic. He was a kind man with an unparalleled compassion for animals, as demonstrated by his love of his family’s many pets, including their two dogs whom he rescued. He would be the first to lend a helping hand to anyone in need – whether to family, friend, or person he had never before met. He had a contagious sense of humor and would constantly be entertaining by sharing stories, jokes, and his musical skills as a drummer.
During his younger years, he loved scouting and was an avid athlete as a golfer and free style and downhill skier.
Immediately after high school, Marty joined the Air Force. Marty was a SSgt of the 267th Combat Communications Squadron and was a member of the Air Force Drum & Bugle Corps and Color Guard. He later continued his commitment to the armed services and veterans as a Sergeant-at-Arms at the Hudson, Massachusetts American Legion Post 100.
Marty was also a successful entrepreneur. He became a certified electrician, ultimately owning and operating Martin Barry Electric, Inc., building a large, loyal customer base. He coupled his knowledge of electricity with his sense of creativity with his creation of steampunk lamps. He was also involved in commercial real estate.
Marty was predeceased by his father, W. Patrick Barry. Marty will be survived and lovingly remembered by his family and friends, including his wife, Mary Jane, of 26 years; his children, John and Emily; his mother, Patricia Barry, and stepfather, Joe Marrazzo; his siblings, Elizabeth Barry (Hudson), Sandra Barry (Gloucester), Christopher Barry (Hudson, N.H.), and Karen Appleyard (Hudson), and their respective spouses; and his 13 nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Marty’s life will begin with a viewing Thursday, June 28, from 4-7 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at the Immaculate Conception Church, 11 Prospect St., Marlborough. Burial will follow at Forestvale Cemetery, Broad Street, Hudson.
