Joseph E. Bennett, 69Humarock – Joseph E. Bennett, 69, formerly a longtime resident of Southborough, died at his home Monday April 4, 2011 with his wife by his side. He was the beloved husband of Diane (Anzaldi) Cassarino Bennett for the past 10 years and the late Patricia (Kennedy) Bennett, who passed away in 1994.

A graduate of Newton High School and Wentworth Institute of Boston, he worked in construction for a while before he and his wife Patsy ran Lugia Sub Shop in Southborough. For 16 years, he was a full-time communications officer for the Town of Southborough, retiring in 2007. At the time of his death, he was still an active reserve police officer, serving the town for over 35 years.

Mr. Bennett was an active member of Chapter 291 Start Touring & Motorcycle Group and a member of the Snowchasers Ski Club. He and his wife Diane were ambassadors at Cannon Mountain in Franconia, NH.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Joseph Bennett and his wife Wendy of Grafton and John Bennett of Southborough; two stepsons, Philip Cassarino and his wife Liza of Foxboro and Matthew Cassarino and his wife Lisa of Laguna Niguel, Calif.; his siblings, Francis Bennett, Eddie Bove and Alvena Bove Gustafson; three grandchildren, Tabitha, Dylan, and Daniel; and three stepgrandchildren, Alison Cassarino; Justin and Joshua Cassarino. He was predeceased by a daughter, Angela Bennett.

Visiting hours will be held Friday April 8, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the Morris Funeral Home, 40 Main St., Southborough (Morrisfuneralparlor.com). A Mass of Christian burial will be held Saturday April 9, at 11 a.m., at St. Matthew Church, Highland Street, Southborough. Burial will follow in the Rural Cemetery in Southborough. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the Southborough Police Association, 19 Main St., Southboro, MA 01772 or St. Jude Children's Hospital, Box 1000, Memphis, TN 38148-0142.
