Rose Hershenberg, 91

52

Westborough – Rose (Cohen) Hershenberg, 91, died peacefully Tuesday June 21, 2011, at Westborough Health Care Center. She was the beloved wife of Simon Hershenberg, who passed away in 2002.

Born March 14, 1920 to David and Fannie (Silverstein) Cohen, she grew up in Dorchester. She and her husband moved to Brighton, where they started a family.

She is survived by her two daughters, Leslie Fisher of Cheshire, Conn., and Merle Portnoy of Westborough. She also considered Merle's husband, Dr. Barry Portnoy, to be like a son to her. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Shelly Fisher Parsley and husband Herbert, Jill Feinberg and husband Michael, Greg Portnoy and fiance Kim Samkoe, and Jeff Portnoy and wife Danielle; and six great-grandchildren, Alex and Joshua Fisher Parsley, Matthew, Andrew and Ethan Feinberg and Maxwell Portnoy. She was predeceased by her son-in-law, Alan Fisher.

Mrs. Hershenberg was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a homemaker and very proud of it. She was a fabulous cook, especially when it came to holiday and ethnic food. When her children were young, she made cakes for many occasions and had the artistic ability to decorate them just like a fine bakery. She also loved decorating her home with her husband. She had an eye for beautiful things. In her later years she doted on her grandchildren and great grandchildren. They gave her so much joy and kept her busy.

Funeral services under the direction of Perlman Funeral Home will be held privately. Memorial Observance will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
