John Kelly, 86Marlborough – John Kelly, 86, formerly of Newton, died Thursday July 21, 2011. He was the husband of Barbara (Barry) Kelly of Marlborough.

Born in Malden, the son of the late Stephen P. and Elsie (Boyle) Kelly, he was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School in Newton. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the U.S. Navy.

Mr. Kelly had formerly worked for the Middlesex & Boston Street Railway of Newton. In John Kelly, 861957, he founded Veteran's Taxi of Newton, and with his partner, Dewey Mollomo, he owned and operated the company for many years, retiring in 2002. He was a former member of St. Bernard's Parish of Newton and the Newton-Needham Chamber of Commerce.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert Kelly and his wife Marion of Holliston and Michael Kelly and his wife Denise of Stow; his grandchildren, Brian Kelly, Paige Kelly, Shauna Wilkinson and her husband Matthew, Amanda Kelly, Erin Kelly and Jeffrey Kelly; his great-grandchildren, Freya and Andrew Wilkinson; his brothers, Michael Kelly and his wife Janet of Norwood and James Kelly and his wife Katherine of Newton; his brother-in-law, Sonny Barry of Port Arthur, Fla.; his sisters-in-law, Janet Kelly of Hudson and Carol Kelly of Orlando, Fla.; and several nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Barney Kelly and Paul Kelly.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday July 25, at 10 a.m., at St. Matthias Church, 409 Hemenway St., Marlborough. Visiting hours will be held Sunday July 24, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Slattery Funeral Home, Inc., 40 Pleasant St., Marlborough.
