Worcester – Joan Filsinger Crommett, 80, formerly of Shrewsbury and Cheektowaga, N.Y., died from cancer Sunday, Oct. 30, 2011 in Worcester.
She leaves her beloved husband of 14 years, Alfred F. Crommett; three daughters, Linda M. DeFichy (Nicholas Lukatchik) of Syracuse, N.Y., Pamela A. (Angelo) Revezzo of Hamburg, N.Y., and Victoria F. Pires (Alfred) of Tewksbury; two sons, Edward M. Filsinger (Aurora) of National City, Calif. and William A. Filsinger (A. Sue) of Boylston; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Virginia Heagney (Philip) of New Smyrna Beach, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Born in Elmira Heights, N.Y., daughter of Erma B. Abbott and Arthur J. Bensley, she spent her high school years in Philadelphia, where she was a graduate of the Philadelphia High School for Girls. Her children by a first marriage to Raymond K. Filsinger were raised in Cheektowaga, N.Y. She was also a graduate of Erie County Technical Institute, Quinsigamond Community College, and Worcester State College, where she was a Magna Cum Laude graduate, Class of 1986.
Mrs. Crommett worked as a laboratory technician at Buffalo General Hospital, a pharmaceutical sales representative for the Purdue Frederick Company and a microcomputer consultant for Bentley College.
She was an avid gardener, a volunteer docent at Tower Hill Botanic Garden, a member of the Boylston Garden Club, and a volunteer at the Shrewsbury Senior Center. She had acted as a Director-at-Large of the Massachusetts Chronic Fatigue Syndrome Association.
A memorial service and internment at the family burial grounds in Waverly, N.Y. will be held at a later date.
