Region – Several local towns will be commemorating Veterans Day Friday, Nov. 11.
Hudson – A parade will start 10 a.m. at the AMVETS Post 208, 5 South St. The grand marshal is Rear Admiral Victor Beck, vice chief of information for Naval Public Affairs, the Pentagon, who has just returned home from Afghanistan. The town will welcome home Hudson-based National Guard Unit (181 Infantry Division), which has also recently returned from Afghanistan. A ceremony will be held at Liberty Park/Wood Square with guest speaker state Rep. Niki Tsongas. A collation will follow at the VFW Post 208, 3 Palmieri Dr.
Marlborough – A parade and wreath-laying ceremony will be held at six city monuments. At each monument there will be three rounds of rifle fire and the playing of “Taps.” The parade will step off at 10 a.m. at the American Legion, Akroyd Houle Post 132, 88 Maple St. The parade will end in front of the Doughboy monument located in front of the Walker Building, 255 Main St.
Westborough –There will be a traditional wreath-laying, three rounds of rifle fire, and the playing of “Taps” at four town monuments. A ceremony will also be held at the Westborough Rotary at 10:40 a.m. with a collation to follow at the VFW Post 9013, 9 Milk St. Grand marshals are Captain Paul Horrigan and Robert Sylvester. Horrigan retired from the Army in 1969 and served stints in Korea, Germany and Vietnam. Sylvester is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Germany.
Shrewsbury – The Shrewsbury Veterans Council will hold its traditional ceremony at 11 a.m. in front of the Everlasting Memorial, which is located in front of the town's public library, 609 Main St.
