Kathryn P. Fitzgibbons, 97Northborough – Kathryn P. (Lyden) “Kay” Fitzgibbons, 97, died peacefully Friday, Dec. 23, 2011 at the Beaumont Skilled Nursing Center in Westborough. Her husband Frederick P. Fitzgibbons died in 1961.

She leaves a daughter, Kathleen Snay of Yarmouthport; a sister, Marguerite Conlon of Worcester; three grandchildren, Gerald Snay and his wife Susan of Shrewsbury, Michael Snay of Auburn, and Andrew Snay and his wife Doris Lee of Wayland; four beloved great-grandchildren, Corrin, Jay, Colin and Jack; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister, Doris, and her brothers, Charles, John “Jack”, Joseph, Paul, and Robert.

Born in Worcester to the late Charles and Margaret (Foy) Lyden, she graduated from Commerce High School and lived in Auburn for many years. Recently, she loved spending time with her extended family and friends at Whitney Place Assisted Living in Northborough, where she was an avid participant in the polka club and other group activities. She worked for many years as the office manager of the American Optical Company in Worcester. Early in her career, she was a “floor lady” at J.J. Newberry's in Worcester.

Throughout her life, Mrs. Fitzgibbon's greatest joy was sharing her unfailing love and support for her family and grandchildren. She had a lifelong, special devotion to the Blessed Mother, especially through novenas and devotions to Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal and Our Lady of Mount Carmel.

In her younger days, she enjoyed a night out with family and friends at local horse racing tracks. It is no surprise why, in later years, she routinely followed the Lottery's daily number's game and was famous for her “magic touch” when selecting scratch tickets.

Blue was Mrs. Fitzgibbon's favorite color, which was evident throughout her home and her prized collection of blue and white Delft pottery. She enjoyed keeping up with latest innovations in toys and household gadgets, and inevitably became a longtime home shopping network “super shopper.”

Relatives and friends are invited to celebrate Mrs. Fitzgibbon's life Tuesday, Dec. 27, with the a visitation period from 9 to 10:30 a.m., followed by a funeral Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will be in Saint John's Cemetery of Worcester. The Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
