The C.A. six tips of the day for March 12

The C.A. six tips of the day for March 12Region – Today is Tuesday, March 13. On this day in 1942, the Quartermaster Corps (QMC) of the United States Army began training dogs for the newly established War Dog Program, or “K-9 Corps.” Since that time, dogs have played an important role in the military, helping to keep their human counterparts safe in some of the most dire and dangerous of circumstances.

On this day in 1993, the eastern U.S. was hit with a monster blizzard. A punishing combination of snow, sleet, and wind was responsible for 33 deaths and a loss of power to over 2.5 million homes. New England was hit hard but not quite as bad as New York City where everything came to almost a complete halt for several days.

Fortunately there are no blizzards forecast for this week in the C.A. readership area. Rather, there is nice spring-like weather predicted for the rest of the week!

Here are six tips for the day –

1. Westborough's Board of Selectmen will be holding its last scheduled meeting tonight before the Saturday, March 17 Annual Town Meeting. You can review the agenda here –

2. With so much awareness of fire safety nowadays, it is easy to forget just how quickly a fire can start. Kudos to the Ashland and Southborough Fire Departments who put out a fire on Sunday in Southborough that could have been much worse if not for their quick actions.

5. In Shrewsbury, Boy Scout Troop 114 and the Outreach Committee of First Congregational Church of Shrewsbury are working together to assist St. Anne's Human Services stock their shelves so that they may continue to help those local residents in need. If you can make a donation, please drop it off at the First Congregational Church office Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 2 p.m. or in Gifford Hall on Sunday mornings, Tuesday evenings or anytime on the last day of the drive, Saturday, March 24. For more information, contact Bill Gibbs at [email protected].

6. A brain injury can be devastating to the whole family, not just the patient. In Westborough there is a fantastic group, the Brain Injury Association of Massachusetts (BIA-MA) that offers a wealth of support. Learn more about them here –
