John A. Lawrence, 80Marlborough – John A. Lawrence, 80, died Friday, March 9, 2012 at UMass Medical Center after being stricken ill at his home Monday. He was the husband of Bernadette M. (Lilley) Lawrence for the past 59 years.

He was born, raised and educated in Marlborough, the son of the late John and Josephine (Loschiavo) Lawrence, and was a graduate of Marlborough High School and of Suffolk University in 1971, with a B.S. degree in chemistry. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War.

Mr. Lawrence was a chemist at Honeywell in Acton for many years before retiring in 2002. Previously, he was employed by New England Tape Company in Hudson for 30 years. He was an avid gardener and fisherman who was very active in life. He was a member of the American Legion Akroyd Houde Post 132.

Besides his wife he leaves three sons, John A. Lawrence Jr. of Brookfield, Michael P. Lawrence of North Grafton, and David J. Lawrence of Marlborough; his grandchildren, Michelle and Nicholas Lawrence of North Grafton, Rebecca Nadeau of Douglas, Jennifer Medina of Worcester, Jonathan Medina of Paxton; six great-grandchildren, Ava, Caleb and Isaiah Nadeau, all of Douglas, Ty and Devin Gonyea of Worcester, and Cody Medina, who is currently serving in the U.S. Air Force; and many nephews and nieces. He was the brother of the late Anna Shephard of Marlborough.

Fitzgerald & Collins Funeral Home of Marlborough is assisting with arrangements. Memorial service information is to be announced.
