Northborough – Algonquin Regional High School (ARHS) held its Annual Senior Awards Night for the class of 2012 May 21. Representatives from local businesses and philanthropic organizations were present to honor these outstanding students.

A special guest participating in the ceremony this year was Dale Kurtz, president of the West Point Society of New England and liaison officer for the United States Military Academy (USMA) for the 3rd Congressional District of Massachusetts. Kurtz presented Kevin Scott Schultz with a certificate of appointment to the USMA Class of 2016. By accepting this honor, Schultz has earned a full four-year scholarship to the prestigious institution. In return, he will undergo rigorous physical training, leadership development and moral-ethical training to prepare him to serve as a commissioned officer in the United States Army.

Schultz has been actively preparing for this challenge both academically and physically during the past four years while at ARHS. His various activities included serving as: president of Algonquin Interact, a nationwide community service group; a member of the National Honor Society; a DECA chapter officer. He also represented ARHS at Massachusetts Boys State, Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership (HOBY) and the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) programs. While in high school, Kevin played football and baseball, and was a member of the varsity wrestling team that qualified to compete for the state championship this year.

At ARHS's Awards Night, Kevin said, “I would also like to thank my coaches, teachers, parents and peers for pushing me these past four years. Without you guys, I would not be standing up here today.”

Kevin is the son of Lori and David Schultz, of Northborough.
