Alan W. Moore, 58Fairhaven – Alan W. Moore, 58, of Fairhaven, formerly of Shrewsbury, died July 16, 2012 in his home.

He leaves his mother, Gertrude B. (Desilets) Moore; a son, Benjamin Moore of Maine; a sister, Gail L. Reno and her husband, Roy of Amherst, NH; a niece, Courtney Warren of Amherst, NH; a nephew, Jesse Reno of New York City; and several aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. He was predeceased by his father, George O. Moore, and a brother, Wayne C. Moore.

Alan was born in Worcester, and educated in Shrewsbury. He graduated from Shrewsbury High School in 1971, where he was a standout football player, making the varsity team as a sophomore and team captain in his senior year. He continued his education and graduated from Greenfield Community College in 1973, and later attended Southeastern Massachusetts University. After college, he moved to Marion and had lived in Mattapoisett and Acushnet before finally settling and buying a home steps away from the beach in Fairhaven.

Alan was very involved in the fiberglass boat building industry for many years and held jobs in several of the New Bedford shipyards. He also worked in the construction field in that area, before his final job in the maintenance department at the YMCA in Mattapoisett.

He enjoyed all types of sports, especially football. He was an avid gardener and loved being around the ocean, boating, and his many friends in the Fairhaven and Mattapoisett communities.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend calling hours Thursday, Aug. 2, from 4 to 7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. His funeral will be celebrated Friday, Aug. 3, at 10 a.m., in Saint Mary's Church, 640 Main St., Shrewsbury. Burial will be private.
