Marlborough – WEEI sports personality John Dennis recently helped out with the United Way of Tri-County's 2012 Toolz for School Backpack Program at the Marlborough Community Cupboard.

The program provides backpacks full of grade-specific supplies to children and youth in the MetroWest/495 Corridor. Last year alone the United Way partnered with 19 companies and 21 community agencies to provide over 800 backpacks to neighborhood children. This year it is expected that an even greater need exists for families struggling to make ends meet.

There are four ways the public can help:

•?????????? Sponsor a child by providing a backpack complete with grade appropriate school supplies

•?????????? Conduct a backpack and school supply drive in your place of business

•?????????? Make a donation that allows the United Way to purchase the backpack in your name

•?????????? Volunteer to assist with sorting supplies and assembling backpacks, matching backpack requests with donations, picking up donations from our corporate partners and/or delivering backpacks to our community agencies.
