Broad Meadow Brook invites public to Sept. 29 opening of sensory trailWorcester – Massachusetts Audubon Broad Meadow Brook Wildlife Sanctuary, a 430-acre wildlife sanctuary in the heart of Worcester, is pleased to invite the public to the grand opening of its new universally-accessible sensory trail Saturday, Sept. 29.

The half-mile sensory trail, designed for people with visual impairments but created for everyone, features a post and rope guidance system with 14 stops with pre-recorded messages (available in text, Braille and cell phone versions) to interpret the nature and landscape history of the area. The trail is 2500 feet long, with a packed stonedust or boardwalk surface for more than ? of its length.

This trail is made possible by grants from the U.S. Institute of Museum and Library Services and the Lions District 33-A Sight and Hearing Fund. Connor Palatucci, Douglas Cub Scouts Pack 134 , St. John's High School, College of the Holy Cross, National Grid, and many Broad Meadow Brook volunteers helped during construction.

“Mass Audubon created this fully accessible self-guided nature trail so that everyone could experience the very special nature that thrives here at Broad Meadow Brook,” said Martha Gach, Broad Meadow Brook conservation coordinator and project coordinator.

The Sept. 29 program celebration begins at 10 a.m., with the ribbon cutting at 10:30 a.m. Visitors are invited to walk the sensory trail and experience the interpretive stops along the way. Staff and volunteers will be on hand to answer questions. Light refreshments will be served. The event is free and open to the public.
