Marlborough – The Marlborough Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) has agreed to support the Marlborough Youth Baseball Association (MYBA) in the form of matching grants to employ a general manager (GM) to spur regional youth sports tourism and create momentum, which will ultimately benefit the residents of Marlborough.
This innovative collaboration and strategic partnership has the potential to fund additional capital improvements to the Williams Street facility and other sites in the city.? The grant will be used to increase the level of instruction provided to MYBA players, increase player registrations, increase fundraising and sponsorships, and continue improving the facility.? It will also provide for a dedicated individual to promote the youth baseball facilities to entities seeking hosts for regional tournaments.
Peter Scerra, a local Marlborough resident, has been named the GM for MYBA for the 2013 season. Scerra is a former player and coach of MYBA and has been a baseball instructor at In The Batter's Box for four years.? Additionally he is a coach with Northeast Baseball, a college showcase organization. His duties will include the coordination and execution of new baseball seminars and instruction programs for both players and coaches. He will also focus his efforts on attracting new sponsors and fundraising with an effort to improve the program for youth baseball players.
Mark Chatalian, the longtime president of MYBA, looks forward to working with the MEDC.
“We are excited to establish this collaboration between MYBA and MEDC,” Chatalian said. “We look forward to enhancing the overall experience for the families involved in youth baseball and improving our facilities for the benefit of the broader Marlborough community.”
One of the main focuses will be the capital improvement planning ?underway to include new dugouts at the Leduc Field, parking upgrades, new offerings and improved quality at the concession stand (the Shack), and the addition of ?Wi-Fi to the pavilion area.
