Shrewsbury – Saturday, May 18, the Parker Road Preschool, Parker Road PTO, and the Town of Shrewsbury Parks & Recreation and Highway Departments are hosting “Kids” Equipment Day, Featuring Drew's Dream.”? The Kids” Equipment Day is a free, family oriented event where children will be able to climb on trucks, fire, police, and EMS equipment and even ride in a dump truck.

Fundraising for “Drew's Dream” will also be a part of the day.? Andrew “Drew” Paul Stevens was a happy and healthy child who developed normally until he had the first of hundreds of seizures starting at age 4 in March 2011. As a part of Drew's medical treatment he underwent MRI's, spinal taps, a lymph node removal, a brain biopsy, and spent countless nights in intensive care. Drew stopped talking, regressed, and could no longer attend school.

In January 2012, Drew began a treatment that worked a miracle. In three short weeks, he was “back.”? He began to talk, stopped having seizures, and was able to once again return to school at the Parker Road Preschool. After three short months on the road to recovery, Drew unexpectedly passed away peacefully in his sleep April 27, 2012. Like most little boys, he loved fire trucks and spent countless hours swinging in the playground.

The funds raised at the “Kids” Equipment Day, Featuring Drew's Dream” will be used to purchase a fire truck play structure and make the current playground accessible to children with special needs and mobility issues. The fire truck structure will honor Drew's memory and enhance the experience of current and future students. As a part of the Shrewsbury Public Schools, Parker Road Preschool is an integrated preschool dedicated to serving children with and without disabilities.

Please join in Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., rain or shine, at the Municipal Highway Garage, 211 South St., Shrewsbury.
