Shrewsbury – Alice S. (Anderson) Crouse, of Shrewsbury, died Saturday, Sept. 27, 2014 in St. Vincent Hospital with her devoted family by her side. She was 88.
She leaves behind her beloved husband of 68 years, 1 month and 4 days, Melbourne C. Crouse; four sons, Raymond Crouse and his wife Diane of Shrewsbury, Doran Crouse and his wife Nancy of Grafton, David Crouse and Cindy Ide of Grafton, and Dana Crouse of Shrewsbury; two daughters, Ellen Richard and her husband Michael of Millbury and Alison Galati and her husband Vito of Rowley; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Johnson and her husband George of Worcester; and numerous nieces, nephews, and daughter-in-law, Lena Heavey of Worcester. In heaven, Alice joins her son, Clifford; her brothers, John, Helmer, and Russell; and her sisters, Ella Hagerstrom and Signe Johnson.
Alice was born and raised in Worcester, daughter of the late John and Ellen E. (Jernstrom) Anderson. She graduated from Commerce High School in 1945. Following graduation, she worked for Dun & Bradstreet in Worcester for several months before marrying her true love, Melbourne, in 1946. A resident of Shrewsbury since 1946, Alice stayed at home to raise her seven children.
Her interests varied: knitting, crossword puzzles, scrabble, traveling to visit family in Nova Scotia, Canada, and her love of baking Swedish pastries and cakes.
The Crouse family would like to thank the entire staff at Saint Vincent Hospital for their wonderful care that was given to Alice throughout her treatment.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Alice’s family Tuesday, Sept. 30, from 4-7 p.m., in the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main St., Shrewsbury. A service honoring Alice’s life will be held Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 10 a.m., in the funeral home. Burial will follow in Mountain View Cemetery of Shrewsbury.
